Privacy Policy

Information We Collect

Information you give us

• Account details: an email address and/or phone number (at least one is required), and a password. Your password is stored only as a bcrypt hash, we never keep it in readable form. If you sign in with Google or Apple instead, we receive an identifier from that provider plus the email/name it shares.
• Passkeys: if you set up Face ID / Touch ID / a security key, we store the passkey's public key and related metadata (not your biometrics).
• Profile: your name, age, gender, language, an optional profile photo, and an optional nickname.
• Companion setup: the companion's name, personality/tone, appearance and presence preferences, and the portrait you choose or generate.
• Onboarding answers (all optional): things like your values, life turning points, gratitudes, what makes you smile, a childhood memory, preferred chat times, and free-text notes.
• Astrology details (optional): birth date, birth time, and birth place, used to power the astrology and horoscope features (we compute a zodiac sign from these).
• Emergency contact (optional): an email address you set for the SOS feature.

Information created as you use the App

• Conversations: your text chat messages and your voice-call transcripts, along with a sentiment label we derive and any thumbs-up/down feedback you give.
• Memories: facts and preferences the App extracts from your conversations and onboarding so your companion can remember you.
• Mood check-ins: a score, emoji, tags, and an optional note.
• Daily goals: goal text and status, if you opt in.
• Settings: memory on/off, check-in toggles, and love-language preference.
• Usage metering: internal records of which AI models were used and how much (tokens, image counts, voice seconds, estimated cost) so we can apply fair-use limits.

Information collected automatically

• Analytics: a random device/session identifier kept in your browser or app, the pages/screens you view, time spent on them, and basic event tags. These analytics are anonymous by default and may be collected before you create an account.
• Referral data: if you arrive through an affiliate/referral link, we set a 30-day mbh_ref cookie and record a click. For click counting we store only a one-way hash of your IP address and browser user-agent, never the raw values.

We do not knowingly collect special-category data beyond what you voluntarily type into your conversations. Please avoid sharing information you would not want stored (for example, payment card numbers or government ID numbers) in chat.

How We Use Your Information

• To create and operate your account and your AI companion.
• To generate the companion's text and voice replies, portraits, daily whispers, and follow-up suggestions.
• To personalize your experience using your memories, moods, preferences, and (if provided) astrology details.
• To remember context across sessions so conversations feel continuous.
• To process subscriptions, trials, and billing, and to enforce fair-use and daily-usage limits.
• To send an SOS alert to the emergency contact you configure, if you trigger the SOS feature.
• To understand product usage in aggregate and improve the App (analytics).
• To prevent abuse, debug problems, and keep the service secure.
• To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your private conversations to advertise to you.

AI Processing & Third Parties

My Better Half AI is powered by third-party AI and infrastructure providers. To respond to you, parts of your data are sent to them for processing:

• OpenAI processes your text messages, your voice audio (for real-time voice mode and speech-to-text), and short context snippets, to generate replies and analyze conversations. For voice, your device connects to OpenAI directly using a short-lived key our server creates; our main API key never leaves our server.
• Google (Gemini) generates and refines your companion's portrait images from the text prompt (and, for refinements, the previous image).
• Stripe processes web subscription payments. Stripe handles your card details directly; we store only your Stripe customer/subscription IDs and status, not your card number.
• Apple and Google provide social sign-in (Sign in with Apple / Google) and process in-app subscription purchases in the iOS and Android apps under their own terms and privacy policies.
• An email provider delivers SOS alerts to the emergency contact you set, when SOS is triggered.

These providers process your data under their own privacy policies and act as our service providers / processors. We encourage you to review OpenAI's, Google's, Stripe's, and Apple's privacy policies.

Analytics

We collect lightweight, mostly anonymous analytics to understand how people use the App, for example, which screens are visited and how long sessions last. A random identifier is stored on your device and, once you sign in, may be linked to your account so we can understand the path from first visit to signup. These analytics are stored on our own servers and are used in aggregate. You can limit some collection by using your browser/OS privacy controls or by not creating an account, though core App features require an account.

Data Retention & Your Choices

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Conversation history, memories, moods, and goals remain available to you until you delete them or your account.

• Export your chats: you can download a plain-text copy of your conversation history from within the App.
• Turn off memory: you can disable the memory feature in settings so new memories aren't used in your prompts.
• Remove your photo: you can delete your profile photo at any time.
• Delete your account: deleting your account removes your user record and the chats, memories, moods, companions, goals, and usage records tied to it. De-identified analytics events may be retained without your account link, and we may retain limited records where required for legal, tax, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including bcrypt password hashing, signed access tokens for API requests, optional passkey (WebAuthn) sign-in, server-side handling of payment and AI-provider secrets (so they never reach your device), signature verification of payment webhooks, and storing only a one-way hash of IP/user-agent for referral tracking. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Use a strong, unique password and keep your device secure.

Age Requirement (18+)

The App is intended only for adults aged 18 or older. We enforce an age check at signup using your birth date and reject ages outside the allowed range. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Crisis Support & Not Medical Advice

My Better Half AI is an AI companion for emotional support and entertainment. It is not a medical device, not a licensed therapist, and not a substitute for professional mental-health, medical, legal, or financial advice. Its responses, including any astrology or horoscope content, are AI-generated and may be inaccurate.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line immediately. The in-app SOS feature can email an emergency contact you choose, but it is not monitored by us and is not an emergency-response service.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the Last updated date and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
